The exhibition ‘Sérénité’ brings together a selection of Maud’s most recent works allowing her many collectors and admirers the opportunity to see and appreciate the breadth of her artistic mastery.

About

The Swedish artist Maud du Jeu was fortunate to have grown up in a family where art and design were an every day part of life. She moved to France in her twenties and soon made it her home. After raising five children she decided it was time for her to follow her passion for fine art; more specifically the study of the human form. In 1997 she graduated from the prestigious Ecole des Beaux Arts de Versailles with a specialisation in Portraiture.  Since that time she has exhibited on a regular basis across Europe and Fiumano Fine Art is delighted to be presenting her second UK solo exhibition.

Maud du Jeu’s bronze sculptures are intimate in both their scale and inspiration. Her subject matter tends to be private solitary moments; young children amusing themselves by playing the piano together or two lovers lost in their own embrace.   Such subjects lend themselves to Maud’s instinctive yet considered approach. She clearly derives great joy from exploring the beauty of the human body and is able to capture a fleeting moment in time.

Bronze is an inherently weighty material yet in Maud’s hands it takes on a vivacity and delicacy that is rare. Simple lines make up sometimes complex compositions, ensuring that each sculpture she produces is full of life and animation.

As with any great sculptor, draftmanship is an essential discipline to master and Maud’s ink on paper ‘studies’ are testament to her confidence as an artist and sensitivity as an observer. In these works she allows herself the freedom to explore the human form at its most complex, single figures take on a solidity and substance fitting for a sculpture whilst embracing figures retain lightness and fluidity of movement.
