Working instinctively developing marks made by dipping into the subconscious Dawn Brooks has created a stunning new body of abstract monochrome prints that are stark, intimate and expressive. Continuing a season of print shows Duckett and Jeffreys Gallery are pleased to present ‘Sequence'', a striking and moving exhibition that combines drawing with drypoint etching and collagraph. The exhibition will run from 8th August to 1st Sept 2012 with an opportunity to meet and chat to Dawn at a launch party on Thurs 9th August 6pm - 9pm. Using a unique combination of drawing and print making through a process of affirming and negating Dawn builds up layers of abstract marks which give the prints a subtlety and depth which accentuates their physical presence. Dawn states, ‘ I develop the printing plate, instinctively reacting to marks as they are made. The process retains a spontaneity and fluidity whilst exploiting the technical discipline of printmaking. The sequence and rhythm of lines creates the illusion of floating between, or passing through, veils of thin air.' Most of my prints are produced as small limited editions but each print is unique due to the inking up process. This introduces subtle differences and qualities to each image. Dawn is currently the resident printmaker at Crescent Arts in Scarborough where she has a studio and teaches a range of printmaking courses. Her work has been exhibited across the UK and in international print shows. She was an award winner in the A4 Printmakers International competition 2010. Dawn has recently been selected for exhibitions at West Yorkshire Print Workshop, A4 Printmakers in Cornwall and RE OPEN, an international exhibition at the Bankside Gallery in London. The gallery will be open from Wednesday to Saturday 11am - 4pm, all other times by appointment. Duckett and Jeffreys Gallery is at 2 Old Maltongate, Malton.
