[semi]permeable presents works by four international artists that deal with the porousness of the border between the physical and digital space and its consequences.
About
Semipermeable (semi = half or partial, permeare = to pass or wander through), in its textbook definition, refers to the state of a physical membrane that connects two units by separating them. A membrane is semipermeable if it ensures a regulated exchange of substances between the units in order to achieve an equilibrium. This occurs selectively or only in one direction, depending on the respective substance.
The exhibition [semi]permeable adopts this biological definition as a way to think through selective membranes, traveling substances and intended equilibriums in regard to the border between the virtual and physical space. Who and what can travers it, and what are the political and aesthetic ramifications of such a transition?
With works by Alice Bucknell, enorê, Natasha Tontey and Will Fredo and a collaborative publication project by Johanna Janßen, Katharina Tewes and Rieke Bogena.
