Selena is pleased to present NO PHOTOS, a solo exhibition of drawings by New York based artist Seldon Yuan. Yuan’s multi-faceted practice explores poetry, memory and the width of language.
About
NO PHOTOS is an ongoing series of drawings based on moments from Yuan’s memory he did not photograph. These are events he was not allowed to photograph, did not have a camera with him or deemed invasive to take a picture. The drawings serve as a mnemonic for these scenes as he recalls it both linguistically and visually.Yuan’s morphing obsession of the abstraction of language interrupts the viewer’s automatic inherent desire to read a piece. He illuminates the gesture of poetry while dividing whole versus part. For NO PHOTOS, Yuan’s maps of memory become energized constellations of his recent past.
