Seeing Beyond Fading is the exhibition dedicated to the new project by visual artist Daniele Costa, a video installation on the fading of heat from life to death.

About

The body as landscape, heat as trace: Seeing Beyond Fading by Daniele Costa leads us into the liminal territory where matter transforms. It is an invitation to pause, to observe, to see what remains. On November 8th and 9th, PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea and Careof present Daniele Costa's installation, open to the public with free admission: an invitation to slow down, to observe carefully, to discover what remains beyond disappearance.

The work was conceived within a hospice, a place where time expands and care becomes a form of proximity. Using thermal imaging cameras, Costa replaces light with heat: bodies appear as thermal landscapes, vibrant fields of intensity that record contact, distance, and the persistence of a vital energy. The project's title alludes to the technical language of video editing, where fade in and fade out mark the appearance and vanishing of the image. Costa subverts its meaning, seeking to see beyond the fading. In this transition between visible and invisible, death ceases to be an end and reveals itself as a continuum.

Developed for the PAC spaces and closely connected to its architecture, the video installation expands, dilates, and becomes a collective experience of viewing and listening. The audience is invited to pause, to share the time of viewing and waiting. The exhibition space becomes a body: a sensitive skin that welcomes the light, warmth, and breath of the images.

Seeing Beyond Fading by Daniele Costa is a project produced by Careof, curated by Marta Cereda, with the collaboration of Carolina Gestri.

The project is carried out with the support of the MiC and SIAE, as part of the “Per Chi Crea” program, in collaboration with the “Casa del Vento Rosa” Residential Palliative Care Center in Lendinara (Rome), with the support of Ines Testoni with the Master in Death Studies & the End of Life, a Terza Missione project of the University of Padua.
