Avant-garde Contemporary Artist Ilhwa Kim will showcase a selection of artworks from the infinitely immersive collection “Seeds of the Universe” for the first time in the United Kingdom.
About
We are excited to confirm the date of the inaugural UK exhibition for Ilhwa Kim, on April 6th, taking place in London at La Galleria on Pall Mall, St. James.
Combining Korean tradition with the contemporary art world, Ilhwa Kim is quickly becoming one of the most important contemporary Asian artists in existence. Her works are found in several main museums across the world as well as major exhibitions and well known art fairs such as Art Miami, Art Paris, Art Central Hong Kong to name but a few.
Her method of integrating an unparalleled amount of labour and content into every piece, truly makes her a unique proposition for any art collector, as such her works have appreciated with enormous growth year on year.
The beautiful and prestigious venue will be hosting over 20 of Ilhwa Kim’s latest artworks, giving visitors a chance to really grasp the level of dedication being put into each one of her pieces.
The artist gracefully creates each seed out of Hanji, a traditional type of handmade Korean paper coming from the inner bark of Paper Mulberry.
Ilhwa Kim dyes each sheet of paper with thousands of different colours and cuts and rolls the layers of paper to make them into “seeds”. Not a single Universe has the same shape, look or colour.
It’s impossible to fully appreciate the total level of completion as each perception betrays the previous one. The universe transforms dramatically between short and long view distances. Kim's universes are extremely free from optimal point of view, they truly offer a chance to visually immerse yourself in an ever transforming tri-dimensional field of shapes and colours.
