About
Makbule Karadag & Rhea McCarthy present ‘See & Sea” at Craving Coffee.Their debut exhibition will feature a range of graphic design, illustration, paintings, and fine line drawings.
Mak and Rhea are Architectural designers / trainee Architects with a background of fine art. Their combined Architectural training and Fine Art experience makes their artistic identities an amalgamation of the two.
“See & Sea” touches upon a multitude of themes and does not follow one singular subject matter, but many. The exhibition is inspired by current issues within the 21st century. The pieces include a variety of both portraits, and habitants of the sea. A contrast is illustrated between an ever growing population, as well as a diminishing.
Rhea work focuses on the ‘Sea’ element of the expo. Originating from her interests and love for the Ocean, Rhea has focused on depicting subterranean forms. With an architectural style; shape, structure, and textures have been illustrated through delicate and detailed fine line drawings. A monochromatic theme runs throughout to accentuate and heighten awareness of the architectural form.
Mak’s work concentrates on the ‘See’ element of the expo. Her interests lie in exploring many aspects within portraiture, stemming from identity, expression, and emotion. Mak uses a mixed media of oil paints, charcoal, and ink with the use of expressive colours, bold brush strokes, and hands-on blending techniques. This compilation seeks to stimulate and provoke emotion around the central subject matter.
The collection of works seeks to engage and encapsulate the viewer in a non-literal language, leaving interpretation open.
