Join us for a relaxing sculpture making workshop inspired by LR Vandy's new exhibition: Hidden. We will use her work as inspiration to make our own pieces in the beautiful October Gallery setting, the perfect way to start the weekend!
About
This June, October Gallery will exhibit the first solo show of sculptor LR Vandy. The artist uses a mixture of both found and made objects in her work.
The current Hull series of sculptures takes model boat hulls and transforms them into ‘masks’ adorned with fishing floats, porcupine quills, and acupuncture needles.
The hull forms allude to the transportation of commodities, the process of trade and movement, but as masks they represent a transformation of identity drawing upon the tradition of talisman, charms, or amulets.
This session will reflect on these works and then participants will have a choice of various sculptural materials to make their own talisman and lucky charms inspired by themes within LR Vandy's work.
Refreshments will be provided and please wear clothes you don't mind getting messy!
