A fascinating exhibition of preliminary models or studies for larger sculptures, includes work by over 20 artists.
About
Sculptors’ Maquettes’ is an exhibition of preliminary models or studies for larger sculptures.
Maquettes allow an artist to visualise how a large-scale piece might look and to try out approaches and ideas that would not be practical on a bigger scale.
‘Maquettes are often fascinating works in their own right, conveying the immediacy of the artist’s first realisation of an idea.’ Tate
Highlights include studies for three of Martin Jennings’ much-loved public sculptures including George Orwell outside Broadcasting House in London and Jon Buck’s maquette for ‘Ship to Shore’, sited at Portishead Marina, near Bristol.
The exhibition also includes work by Anthony Abrahams, David Backhouse, Bruce Beasley, Nick Bibby, Ralph Brown, Lynn Chadwick, Ann Christopher, Michael Cooper, Terence Coventry, Bryan Kneale, David Mach, Charlotte Mayer, Eilis O’Connell and William Tucker among others.
