About
Sumiko Eadon, NAE Prize winner of Nottingham Castle Open 2014, presents Screenplay, a series of screen prints inspired by the architecture of NAE's building. The wide windows and the staircases of our Central Gallery transported Eadon back to her childhood in Japan, where she played 'cops and robbers' in the corridors and staircases of the apartment block she grew up in.
The images within Eadon's artworks have been created through a layering process, moving from mechanical technologies through to digital and back to handmade. Eadon started with stills from 8mm films created by her father between 1969-1989, which were converted to VHS, and then DVD. Eadon then photographed these stills through the computer screen before incorporating them into hand prints.
