About

'Talking about the past is the best way to understand the present and to approach our future,” said artist JR.

To open the Imran Faour's exhitition 'Modern Face of Syria', Art Represent will be screening JR's ELLIS, a collaboration between Robert de Niro, Eric Roth and artist JR. Set in an abandoned hospital on Ellis Island, ELLIS tells the story of the immigrants that built America. The film foreshadows the plight of many facing similar conditions today, escaping conflict for new opportunities in distant parts of the world.

By screening this to coincide with Faour's graphic art- that explicitly refers to the conflict in Syria and the refugee crisis- we hope to shed light on the impact of the framing this refugee crisis and the historicizing of a previous refugee crisis.
