Screening of 'The Radiant' with a panel discussion featuring artists Chris Wainwright and Kaori Homma

About

As a part of 'Those Who Go East', Art Action UK will present 'The Radiant' by The Otolith Group.  Curated and directed by Kodwo Eshun and Anjalika Sagar, 'The Radiant' is a film essay that looks at the invisible consequences of the 2011 nuclear meltdown. The Otolith Group explore archival documentation, sonic communication and the moving image within gallery spaces.  In 2010, the group was nominated for the Turner Prize.

We will also screen the short documentary 'under the wave, on the ground' by Haruka Komori and Natsumi Seo, who participated in the 2014 Art Action UK residency project.  In 2011, artist duo Komori and Seo moved to Rikuzentakata, in East Japan. They have been documenting daily life in the area, drawing attention to the ways in which the rebuilding programmes have affected local communities. Their artworks consider the emotional impact of the disaster.

Following the screenings, artists Chris Wainwright and Kaori Homma will discuss artistic responses to the disaster and the significance these practices have.
