AboutScrapArt is an exhibition of sculpture, photography and moving image by young people from Wrexham Youth Justice Service, working with contemporary artists Karen Heald and Angela Davies. The intensive project took place over one week. The young people and their educational support workers became real artists, exploring how artists work, how they think of ideas, why they make work and how they present it. From the initiation of ideas and experimentation with a variety of media, through to the production of final artworks. The group visited a scrap yard in the county for research and inspiration. The objects collected there were used as tools, to create expressive drawings and considered as sculptural "things" from a different perspective. A camera was used to capture the energy and vibrancy of the project as well as personal experiences through photos and moving image. The participants and artists found the project rewarding and this was reflected in positive and ongoing behavioural changes.
