Scintillations shows extracts from series of photographers Nadja Bournonville and Alexander Gehring together with a sound sculpture by Sara Wallgren.

About

Nadja Bournonville’s images are part of the series, Blindfell, a project that focus on one of the basics of our confrontation with the surrounding world: the sight, and the wonderous workings and malfunctions of perception. Blindfell, is old English and means to rob someone of their ability to see. The sound- sculptures and -installations created by Sara Wallgren often dwells on the physical capacities of sound; The oscillations of the sound wave, the limited frequency range of the human ear, the immanence of information in sound and its capacity of invisibly filling out architectural spaces. The sound sculpture Alphard that is presented in the exhibition at exp12/ exposure twelve relates to its surrounding as a converter or tool for perception. In Alexander Gehring’s work ‚Atlantis‘ show colored landscapes manipulated in the darkroom in order to create an enigmatic setting in which the image itself looses its meaning and disappears into color and shape. Like the mysterious sunken kingdom the images recall an almost forgotten era of photography and refers to it’s inherent arcane aura.

Nadja Bournonville studied 2003 - 2006 at the Glasgow School of Art and from 2010-2012 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. Her work "A Conversion Act" was published in Fotohof publisher and was in 2014 part of the traveling exhibition "Gute Aussichten". For her work "Blindfell" she received 2015 a scholarship of Stiftung Kunstfond. Since 2008 she is represented by the Pierogi Gallery, New York. Bournonville lives and works in Berlin.
