ALREADY THE FAKE PEAR TASTES A LITTLE ROTTEN IN MY MOUTH, AND AT THIS STAGE I HAVE NOT EVEN LOOKED INSIDE. SO SAVE THE PEAR THEN. SHUT UP ABOUT IT AND SAVE THE PEAR FOR SAVORR, OR FOR WHATEVER SITUATION IT IS THAT NEXT PRESENTS ITSELF AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CUT UP A FAKE PEAR AND EXPOSE IT TO WHOEVER IS WATCHING. For his exhibition with Savorr, Patrick Coyle will develop new works and a performance resulting from a recent encounter with a plastic pear in Florida. - Coyle is an artist who frequently uses language and performance to examine personal and hidden narratives in the world he encounters. Coyle demonstrates these narratives using found objects, images and texts, and places strategic constraints on his own methods of presentation. Recent projects have involved the artist performing a script that he has written on the way to the venue; producing a text from seventeen translations of the same Fernando Pessoa poem; and using a transcription of an unscripted speech to form multiple artwork labels for a solo exhibition. Since graduating from MFA Art Writing at Goldsmiths in 2010, Coyle has delivered performances and readings at various venues including the ICA, Tenderpixel Gallery, Zabludowicz Collection, Hayward Concrete Café, The Mews Project Space, Spike Island (Bristol), The Poetry Café (London), Arnolfini (Bristol), Flat Time House, and The Icelandic Embassy (London). Coyle has presented solo exhibitions at Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London, Tenderpixel Gallery, London, and The Motorcycle Showroom, Bristol, and has participated in group exhibitions at Crate Project Space (Margate), Hayward Concrete Café, The Pigeon Wing, The David Roberts Art Foundation, TotalKunst Gallery (Edinburgh), Five Years Gallery, The Woodmill (London), the SVA Theatre (New York), A Foundation (Liverpool) and ICA, London. He has contributed to publications such as Art Licks Magazine, Ruler Zine, Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011 Catalogue, …ment journal for contemporary culture, and Roland Magazine (ICA London), and his work has been written about in publications such as Modern Painters (100 Artists to Watch, Jan 2012), Time Out London (Art-world stars of tomorrow, December 2010) and Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2010 Catalogue. Coyle is currently completing a year-long residency with AkermanDaly.com, and is Writer in Residence at Wysing Arts Centre from April to December 2012.
