Saved Thoughts
A collection of paintings, drawings and ceramics from emerging artists Stuart Brambell, Henry Glover and Emily Juliet Stevens.

About

‘Saved Thoughts’ presents artworks by three emerging artists; Stuart Brambell, Henry Glover and Emily Juliet Stevens. The focus on memories and histories is apparent throughout all three artists’ practices.

Stuart Brambell’s (B. 1996) work is focused on the objectified and abjected body presented alongside various art historical references. Brambell tends to lean on tropes and motifs in art that he deems recurrent and almost ‘shtick’ throughout the western art canon. Umbrellas, leaves and flowers regularly pop up within Brambell’s work alongside the grotesque and blobular figures made up of dismembered body parts. Primarily working in paint and drawings, Brambell presents the viewer with images made up of other images. Remixed and jarring against one another to create tense paintings loaded with references from Hal Foster to Julia Kristeva. ‘Saved Thoughts’ is Stuart Brambell’s first exhibition since graduating Wimbledon College of Arts. He has also been part of group shows such as ‘For Love or Money’ at the Copeland Gallery earlier this year.

Henry Glover (B. 1997) is a painter and sculptor focused on the physical element of relationships. The idea of the ‘embrace’ is an ever-present element of his work. This ‘embrace’ comes up in many forms; boxers grappling together, hands squeezing a pillow and ceramic human forms locked together are all examples of how Glover deals with touch and embrace. Glover is currently studying at Wimbledon College of Arts and has shown in and curated numerous group exhibitions held at The Nunnery Gallery, The Crypt Gallery and various UAL exhibition spaces. Glover has recently finished the Elephant X ColArts Summer Residency in collaboration with fellow artist, Emma Morgan.

Emily Juliet Stevens’ (B.1995) work focuses on the everyday. An eclectic practice pulling together painting, drawing, printmaking and zine-making, currently focused day to day life and routine as well as drawing attention to larger themes of femininity and young adulthood situated within a contemporary context. ‘Saved Thoughts’ is Stevens’ first exhibition in London and has taken part in many shows in Cornwall including the Cornwall Art Fair in St. Ives and various solo shows in Falmouth. Recently graduating Falmouth University, Stevens has created a broad practice that contains a constant thread of memory and experience, both subjective and shared.
