In Spring 2019, artist Chantal Joffe will select and curate an exhibition of Sargy Mann’s paintings at the Royal Drawing School in Shoreditch.
About
Throughout his life Sargy Mann (1937- 2015) had a fascination with the nature of visual perception and a desire to make paintings that could communicate his experience of the world.
Sargy Mann
Born in Hythe, Kent in 1937, Sargy Mann (29 May 1937 – 5 April 2015) was a student of Frank Auerbach and Euan Uglow at Camberwell art school, where he later became a teacher himself for many years. His early work seen in group shows at The South London Gallery and Camden Arts centre among others, was very ‘Euston Road School’ influenced but increasingly an obsession with light and colour defined his mature work. Alongside his own painting Mann was an expert on French post impressionists, especially the work of Pierre Bonnard on whom he wrote several books and curated the exhibition Bonnard at Le Bosquet at the Hayward Gallery in 1994.
Mann was represented by Cadogan Contemporary, where he had seventeen solo shows between 1987 and 2015. His work can be seen in public and private collections internationally.
