Sculpture and (Video)installation of three international artists that explore the concepts of containment, pressure & control in a basement setting.
About
ABOUT THE WORKS
SPILL (2018) combines domestic and industrial objects that are used to contain and control flows of liquid. The sculpture explores different connotations of the word spill, considering the relationship between accident and intention. A balloon, wax, marshmallows, and plasticine are scrunched into organic shapes and grouped to model a cow’s gut; a complex system consisting of four stomachs. The balloon is filled with bubble gum scented disinfectant which drains through an IV drip and on to the floor, where it spills in to another container. The liquid is contained but the scent is released steadily. The work functions as an autonomous machine, subsuming the spill it creates.
Katrine Hoffmeyer Tougård and Robert Lakomczyk have been collaborating since 2016. In DOWNHILL FLOAT (2019), Hoffmeyer Tougård and Lakomczyk explore different notions of pressure and control through a multi channel installation. Three videos and their overlaps depict scenarios of losing control, drifting on open water and of detecting the movements of an an earthquake simulator. The scenarios expose the unbalancing of an equilibrium and open up a field between hydrostatics and the fear of swimming in deep waters.
