Denbigh artist Sarah Carvell grew up in the Vale of Clwyd and is establishing herself as one of the leading painters of the Welsh landscape.
About
After studying Fine Art initially in Wrexham College of Art and subsequently in Loughborough College of Art, Sarah was a self employed illustrator in Maidstone and London then returned to the area of her childhood to initially teach Art at Secondary Level but was then employed as an art lecturer in Manchester City College (as it was then called) for a number of years.
After a very successful exhibition in her local library in Denbigh Sarah was spotted by gallery owner Martin Tinney of The Martin Tinney Gallery in Cardiff. What followed from then was a decade of annual exhibitions in Cardiff and North Wales with the most recent being her most recent solo exhibition in May 2018 at Oriel Ffin Y Parc Gallery in Llanrwst.
This exhibition is a combination of some of those paintings that were produced in that period of time, and also recent drawings capturing the essence of Sarah’s day to day life living in a North Wales town. Drawings that capture her immediate surroundings: table tops after meals, window sills with plants, the snoozing family dog and pockets of views seen through the windows of her home.
But also views of the Vale of Clwyd and the rising Clwydian range beyond.
