In coordination with the announcement of our artist roster, Mrs. will release weekly, online viewing rooms individual to each artist, showcasing new and available works. This week we feature Sarah Bedford.
About
Sarah Bedford’s works incorporate abstraction of floral still-life compositions with collage elements such as layering with snakeskin and glitter fabric. Referencing Arthur Dove, Gee’s Bend and Marsden Hartley, Bedford’s alchemical and diagrammatic works continue the lineage of still life painting. Taking form through the lens of a feminist conversation, her works summon a new narrative behind this traditional art form. Bedford’s works evolve spontaneously – whether sprayed, collaged, painted, or drawn – conveying a freedom of exploration in the materiality of her works, as well as an ever-shifting relationship to line and form.
Born and raised in Roundup, Montana, Sarah Bedford received her BFA from the Cooper Union and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Bedford has been a recipient of the National Academy of Design Painting Award, as well as a Lower East Side Printshop Artist Fellowship. Bedford has shown regularly with Bellwether Gallery and most recently with Mrs., Maspeth, Jack Hanley Gallery, SFA Projects, New York; Deanna Evans Projects, Brooklyn, NY; and Foyer, Los Angeles, CA.
Throughout the week we will feature Sarah Bedford's practice on the gallery’s Instagram, with dedicated stories and posts, highlighting exhibitions and works, both past and present. For additional information or sales inquires please contact hello@mrsgallery.com.
