About

saracen go home is a new exhibition from Glasgow-based artist Sulaïman Majali, developed as part of our Satellites Programme. Taking its title from racist graffiti sprayed on a mosque in Cumbernauld in 2016, the installation draws on historical narratives around Collective’s site to explore diasporic states.

The diasporic position offers a way of seeing connections and stories that have been obscured in conventional histories of nations and nation-states. Using the idea of ‘folding and creasing’ source material, Sulaïman brings together a series of historical events relating to the City Observatory through sculpture and sound, uniting field recordings, radio and broadcast materials, digital sounds and voice.

The exhibition will fill the Hillside with a new sound work and transform it into a set, where the audience is placed on stage amongst sculptural objects which address their own bodies alongside the absent body of the diasporic subject.

Join us for the opening of the exhibition from 7—9pm on Friday 31 January, all welcome.

saracen go home is part of Satellites Programme, Collective’s development programme for emergent artists and producers based in Scotland.
