Sarabande, the Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation, to host spectacular gala and sell artists’ work as charity partner at LAPADA 2019.

About

This year, the Sarabande Foundation has been invited to be the charity partner of LAPADA. As well as hosting a spectacular gala dinner, the Foundation will also have a large stand at the prestigious fair, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Established from the estate of the late Lee Alexander McQueen, Sarabande’s mission is to support the UK’s best emerging creative talent through scholarships, subsidised studio space and industry mentoring.

Sarabande will be exhibiting the work of a number of its artists and designers at this year’s LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair in Berkeley Square. Artists on show will include oil painters Mircea Telegea, Jonah Pontzer and Michaela Yearwood-Dan, jeweller and engraver Castro Smith, taxidermy artist Harriet Horton, award-winning silversmith Shinta Nakajima and printmaker Oliver McConnie. The stand will also display some furniture owned by McQueen, which is currently on display at Sarabande’s HQ, a listed stable block in Haggerston.

In addition, jeweller, and Sarabande alumni, Benjamin Hawkins has designed an exquisite silver moth pin to mark the charity’s partnership with LAPADA. The moth was a recurring motif in Lee McQueen’s work, and the moth and skull is the symbol of Sarabande and is the creation of world-renowned photographic artist Nick Knight, a patron of the Foundation. The limited edition pin will be available to buy online and at the fair at a price of £149 with all proceeds going towards supporting the Foundation.
