Sara Lee will introduce the history and technique of the Japanese method of woodcut printmaking. The course will explore the unique and subtle qualities of the ukiyo-e tradition of preparing and printing blocks, and work towards multi-block and colour prints using water based materials. Sara also covers the registration and the basic principles of edition printing. The cutting techniques learned on this course will be very useful for those using the conventional Western woodcut tradition.
The course is individually tailored and therefore suitable for beginners and for those with experience of the technique.
