âSafar: A Journey Through Popular Arab Cinema' is a series of classic and contemporary popular cinema running from 21 27 September and presented by the Arab British Centre. It includes gripping dramas, subversive comedies and exaggerated melodramas, taking in an array of re-mastered cinematic masterpieces and new releases, many never before seen on British screens. The programme explores a fifty-year period of filmmaking that demonstrates the diversity and complexity of Arab cinema with highlights including screenings of âAlexandria, Why?', âBosta' and âTerrorism and the Kebab'.
