About

How many points are there in a line? What is the number of numbers? How can we verify that the random is random? Japan's leading electronic composer/artist, Ryoji Ikeda is interested in the minutiae of ultrasonics, frequencies and the essential qualities of sound. For Ikon he continues his exploration of the infinity of data between 0 and 1, an abstraction of reality that challenges our perception of the codes present in everyday life. The large-scale audiovisual installation data.tron (2007—2009) immerses the viewer in a projection of row upon row of numbers, a sea of ever-changing streams of numerical data. Each single pixel is strictly calculated, shaped by a combination of pure mathematics and the immense quantity of information available in today's world.
