Artwork by Bonnie Ralston and Joe Banish at BWAC
About
Rust Show is an exhibition of the work of Bonnie Ralston and Joe Banish at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in Red Hook, Brooklyn. These two BWAC members have combined forces to showcase aspects of rust that will make you stop, think, and take a second look.
Bonnie Ralston uses the actual process of corrosion to create monoprints. She introduces salt, vinegar and water to metal to initiate the formation of rust that forms an imprint on paper. She then manipulates the rust flow into shapes of her own making. Joe Banish photographs rust in its natural environment of our city landscape. A painter at heart, he highlights abstract color, texture and geometric form existing in places many people would pass by.
Together, their art spans the natural processes of rust and corrosion, and the man-made intrusions that become the prime targets of rust. Organic biology and chemistry meet urban geometry, and the results are transformative.
