About

Russell Herron can broadly be termed a conceptual artist, exploring the very essence of what it means to BE an artist. However being an artist also means producing art – drawings, paintings, objects. Therefore Russell also does exactly that. The ideas are periphenomenal. Edging his way from a position in his earlier practice that put into question whether being an artist involves the production of actual art to a position of intense mental and manual activity, where the subject of course becomes, however obliquely, a self-portrait. In 'What We Talk About...' the artist ponders the world peripheral to his presence within it. A tree falls and we are left wondering if we did in fact hear something.
