AboutRuslan Kotev Paintings at the Hepsibah Gallery
THE HEPSIBAH GALLERY is delighted to welcome RUSLAN KOTEV to the gallery where the light of a bright May day will perfectly compliment his lovely canvases. You will enjoy this work. It's mature, it's scholarly it is the essence of good abtract painting and strangely reminiscent of a Turner painting at the same time. Ruslan will be curating the show during the week so come along and meet the artist and view this truly masterful body of work.
I am a London based artist and my work consists of both abstract and figurative paintings composed in solid structures and powerful colours. My paintings have been exhibited in various London galleries.
I have also produced a body of etchings several of which are held by the V&A collection of contemporary printmaking.
My paintings are explorations of emotions through the use of colour and complex visual space. The source of light is the main vehicle for creating an imaginary place with undefined forms and strong colours evoking an intensity of often opposite and contradictory feelings: anger and desire for inner peace, a yearning for open spaces and inability to escape one's own prison.
I am also seeking to give a visual expression of the paradox of the changing relationship between man and nature. It is not any more the vulnerability of human beings before overwhelming outer forces but the fragility of the Earth, suddenly not all powerful as it was thought before.
In my work I maintain the freshness of expression by applying the paint in a more spontaneous manner which can be seen in the visible brush strokes and the use of glazing.
