About

Something to talk about

Complementing this annual exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, which showcases some of the most outstanding and innovative portraits by artists working in Great Britain and around the world today, is a brand NEW prize, ‘Conversations’, generously sponsored by Seven Investment Management. Worth £15,000 to the winning artist, ‘Conversations’ adds a further dimension to this high profile and popular exhibition, which includes new work by member artists, as well as paintings selected from open submission.

The exhibition encourages subjects ranging from informal sketches of friends and family to large-scale commissions and well-known faces. All are painted or drawn in a wide variety of styles and media.

Something to look at

This year, there will also be an opportunity to view a selection of members’ works from the People’s Portraits collection, housed at Girton College, Cambridge.

Prizes include the prestigious £10,000 Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture and Gold Medal for the most outstanding portrait in the exhibition, the £3,000 de Laszlo Foundation Prize and Silver Medal for an artist under 35, £2000 Burke's Peerage Foundation Prize for the most 'classically inspired' portrait in the exhibition, the £2,000 Prince of Wales Drawing Prize and the £15,000 Seven Investment Management’s ‘Conversations’ Prize.

Something to do

For those inspired by what they discover, our Commissions Consultants are available in the Galleries throughout the exhibition.
