KCCUK will present Royal Palaces of Joseon (8 June - 21 August), an exhibition introducing the history and aesthetic of the Royal Palaces built during the Joseon Dynasty, which spanned more than 500 years from 1392-1910.
About
The exhibition will explore the history of the Palaces through art, including photography, video and traditional Korean paper craft. As the heart of the Korean Royal family and government, the history of the Royal Palaces goes hand in hand with the rise and fall of the Joseon Dynasty and the fate of wider Korean society of the time. A virtual tour of the exhibition will also be available to view via the KCCUK website.
This exhibition will introduce the history of the Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, and Deoksugung Palace as well as the Jongmyo Shrine which houses the ancestral tablet of the Kings of the Joseon Dynasty. These monuments are of significant cultural importance to Korea, and both Changdeokgung Palace and the Ritual Ceremony in Jongmyo Shrine are both listed by UNESCO World Heritage. The exhibition will feature artwork by cultural heritage photographer Seo Heun-Kang and photographer and videographer Park Jong-woo, including a video depicting the Ritual Ceremony at Jongmyo Shrine. The exhibition will also include a large-scale artwork by Yang Mi-young, created from more than 1,000 dolls made of Korean traditional paper (hanji) which recreates a painting of the Royal family's wedding in 1759.
