About
Self-taught artist Roy Anderson produced his prolific output between the years of 1960 and 1970. Roy's works are a reflection of his experiences as a child and his memory of the Second World War and subsequently, how these experiences have affected his views on politics, religion and philosophy.Citing Maurice Utrillo, Francisco Goya and Paul Gauguin amongst his artistic influences, Roy's work is a very human expression of a time in his life that was shaped heavily by the burden of modern warfare and his compassion for people, as well as his strong Socialist political beliefs. The exhibition, taking place in the studio at Pallant House Gallery, will showcase selected works from Roy's extensive range of Expressionist-style paintings, many of which are seemingly influenced by the Cubist movement, Post-Impressionism and the work of the German Expressionists.
