The exhibition shows two black and white works by Sylvia Zirden, which deal with the states of being on the move and being rooted from different perspectives.

About

Sylvia Zirdenʼs pictures deal with inner and outer states: with emotions, perceptions, experiences and situations.
unterwegs (on the move) consists of blurred photographs of an icy winter landscape rushing past train travellers on the old transit line in Brandenburg. The work thematises the fleeting perception, the feelings of being unbound, unsteadiness, not being at home, a lack of grounding that are associated with being on the move. The closer the landscape gets to the viewer, the more blurred and unrelated it appears. While clearer outlines can be recognised in the distance, the trees and bushes, which the train rushes past immediately, become distorted into hatch-like shapes as the speed increases.
The second work, verwurzelt (rooted), forms a counterpoint to this by depicting rootedness in images of pairs and groups of trees, initially in a very concrete, radical sense. The relationships within the immobile, involuntary communities of rooted trees can also be examined more closely. The analogies to human relationships in the most diverse constellations and forms are almost obvious: as neighbours, friends, competitors, siblings, families, couples or even loners.
