Rodrigo Valenzuela's formally rigorous photographs engage the aesthetics of ruin to offer an indirect critique of labor practices and income inequality.
About
Concurrent with his solo exhibition at Seattle's Frye Art Museum, Upfor presents new work by Rodrigo Valenzuela. Photographic images question whether ruins, once divorced from social context and economic failure, can be aesthetically and emotionally engaging. Coupled with video work that engages the narratives and labors of everyday workers, the exhibition continues Valenzuela’s indirect critique of issues around race, class and income inequality.
