About
Rod Tompson is a photographer who, over his 50 years of experience, has covered a range of development and printing as well as digital photography. He has described the artwork to be shown, which has been created over the past 3 years, as purist and poetic photography. Rod has been inspired by Edward Weston, but included ideas about aesthetics and reference to Edmund Burke on the nature of the sublime whilst holding purist principles. Other influences have included PH Emerson, Bill Brandt, Imogen Cunningham, and Renger Patzsch. For Rod Tompson the materiality of the photographic images is just as important as a painter’s palette. He has studied at Manchester Metropolitan University, University Campus Suffolk (BA Photography) and Norwich University Of The Arts(MA Fine Art).
