Robert Swedroe: New Work

Collage installation and smaller-scale pieces from the 'Cyber' series. Robert M. Swedroe is an American artist as well as a renowned architect based in Miami Beach, Florida. From the time he was introduced to assemblage in architecture school, he was fascinated with the art form. The ability to resuscitate found objects and reinvent them into totally novel visual expressions inspired a new and expanded way of thinking. When Swedroe embarked upon his professional life, the first twelve years were as architect and visual artist simultaneously. This combination provided the best of both worlds. In designing buildings, he was confronted with countless restrictions and obstacles, but in assembling collages, he enjoyed total creative freedom. Ultimately, however, it became necessary for Swedroe to turn his full attention to architecture, which he did until the spring of 2006. Now, almost four decades after beginning his architectural and artistic careers, he is fully immersed in his art, having re-emerged even more creatively than before. Swedroe's architectural eye may be evident in many of his current mixed media, three-dimensional, wall-based works. In addition, he frequently applies materials which were solely developed for architectural and interior design applications to his collages. True to assemblage, his works are combinations of found objects and printed patterns sealed with layers of epoxy resin. Those that allude to the geometry of architecture are artistic versions of structures, infused with the confidence of design and the excitement of bold colors.
