Rise and Fall presents the creative play between artist Janet Holland’s large-scale, immersive, colour-filled canvases and a vibrational sound piece by artist Amy Lawrence for deaf and hearing audiences.

About

A short film ‘Colour in the Air’ by Lou Brett documents the creative collaboration between the two artists. Audiences on Saturday can experience an improvised performance by dancers from Shallal Dance Theatre. Rise and Fall was originally produced in partnership with Grays Wharf for an exhibition in February 2023. Practicalities: This site is wheelchair accessible but there’s no accessible toilet. About the Artists Shallal is an artist-led charity offering creative groups and projects across Cornwall. Shallal believes that everyone in society should have access to creativity, an equal voice and the opportunity to discover their potential. Shallal Studios is in Redruth and offers visual art groups and professional development for a diverse range of artists. Janet Holland exhibited with Shallal at Newlyn Art Gallery 2020 and her debut solo show was earlier this year at Grays Wharf, Penryn. Since then, she has been awarded a commission with Hospital Rooms. Amy Lawrence is a performance artist and music creator living and working near Penryn, Cornwall. They have recently been artist in residence at Britten Pears Arts, Gwithian Chapel and Prah Foundation. They are currently working on a project with Small Acts. Lou Brett co-runs Shallal Studios and is an artist and filmmaker. Shallal Dance Theatre has been running for over 35 years and is Shallal’s flagship performance dance company. Specialising in improvisation, the company has performed everywhere from Hall for Cornwall and The Eden Project to Falmouth University AMATA Performance Space and The Acorn Theatre and will shortly be performing at Tate St Ives.
