A collection of works from artists Hazel Cardew, David Long, James Milligan and Tom Morris
‘Rest in Peace: Work in Progress’ highlights the way in which these artists utilise drawing within their practice, reflecting on the creative process and celebrating drawing as both a tool and a product.
The works that you find here are in some way abandoned, forgotten and unfinished; whether resting listless in a sketchbook or on the shelves, tucked away amongst sheets of paper and books. The works were conceived from projects that may never have seen the light of day; from tangents that spiralled and meandered along a winding path. No matter that they have been unseen until now, they are tangible and always have been.
These bits of paper have stories to tell and yearn to be touched; flicked through and handled; tactile memories, a paper trail of thoughts and expressions. These rolls, loose sheets and scraps of paper have been waiting for a release into the wilderness, to lay bare their lines, creases and colours before your very eyes. Enjoy these works for what they are, read into them what you must, and take away from them a sense of belonging. That is all these works have ever wanted.
