‘Rift’ presents 13 practising visual artists and current undergraduate students from The Slade School of Fine Art.
The show presents a culmination of video, sculpture, sound, performance and photography works surrounding ‘the preservation of speech or sound, archived by the everyday object’.
About
This group show intends to bring together a group of artists working sensitively with modes of preservation and the mechanisms we entrust to resemble absence. ‘Rift’ as a collective space encounters a grouping of sentimental objects/markers which sit on the brink of functionality and obsolescence.
Remnants of voice, wrapped and sealed, left untouched, machines constructed to deliver noise without a source of input, boats dislocated from a shoreline, bells awaiting ringing, objects detached from the hands of their owner, a marker retaining the final presence of body, inscriptions locked far in the distance.
Curated by Lily Petch in collaboration with participating artists: Ellie Bird, Maya Brasington, Ed Burrell, Jem Crook, Gabriele Cuilli, Marla-Sunshine Kellard-Jones, Fei Li, William McLucas, Vidan Ana, Phoebe Russell, Joe Shone-Hatchwell, Rebecca Stenfors.
