Lungley Gallery is pleased to present Intellectual Property, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Richard Kirwan.
About
For his first solo exhibition at the gallery, the artist is occupying the first and second floor of 53 Great Portland Street. Kirwan will present a series of ‘grid paintings’ alongside a recent set of works executed on plywood. These relief paintings emphasise their qualities as objects, heightening their sense of materiality.During the exhibition, the gallery staff will intermittently change the installation of the works on plywood, by removing works and replacing them with others, intervening in their order and, consequently, the experience of the viewer. Kirwan sees this performative aspect as akin to shuffling a pack of playing cards. In this manner, the installation of the exhibition remains speculative and certainly ‘incomplete’.
A catalogue of Kirwan’s work will be available to accompany the exhibition, with an essay by Juan Bolivar, artist and academic at University of the Arts, London.
