‘Richard Elphick: The Ancient of Days’ is a graphic art exhibition comprised of three 84 x 12 in triptych paintings inspired by the work of William Blake.
About
In 1794, as part of his book Europe: A Prophecy, Blake painted the frontispiece ‘The Ancient of Days’, one of the age old names the holy figure Sanat Kumara is known by.
The triptych paintings draw upon the esoteric writings of Helena Blavatsky from the Theosophical Society, Alice Bailey from the Lucis Trust and Benjamin Creme from the Share International Foundation. Other inspirations include 1920s German expressionism and the modern stained glass window tradition.
This exhibition will the first time all of the completed triptychs have been displayed together in public.
