Rhys Brown is a new face on the British art scene who’s racked up 4 sold out print releases with the Waluso Gallery and footballer Peter Crouch an early supporter. His first solo entitled ’Slumber’ is a series of works whose childhood nostalgia conjures up warmth and our love of the past.

About

February 6th-27th 2020 - Rhys Brown Solo Show ’Slumber’

Squash paintings, Rhys Brown (b.1993) London, UK

“The idea of destroying something to create something new is such a beautiful thing to me. Deconstruction goes hand in hand with the lack of control I witness when pursuing new works and ideas. The squash paintings are made based on chance, items are destroyed to potentially become works of art and inspired by Yves Klein’s Anthropometry paintings and traditional Japanese printing method ‘Gyotaku’.

Nearly everyone on this earth has something sentimental to them from they were a child especially in the western world and most of the time it’s in the form of a plush toy. There comes a time when a lot of these people will decide it’s time to let go and move on with their life by getting rid of the plush. Capturing that feeling of childhood within my work feels so important to me from which I have noticed people wanting to name the painting after that special plush toy they had growing up. That inner child is still in all us us even if we like it or not. Nostalgia is what we need in our modern lives to keep going and holding onto the warmth and love of our past.”

Rhys Brown is a new face on the British art scene who quit his job to become a full time artist in October 2019. Since then he’s racked up 4 sold out print releases with the Waluso Gallery and footballer Peter Crouch an early supporter. About to launch to his first solo in February entitled ’Slumber’, it’s a series of works whose childhood nostalgia conjures up warmth and our love of the past.

Following on from the hotly anticipated show at Waluso Rhys Brown heads to Paris on Thursday April 2nd for a 1st Solo show there. Having clocked up a record Auction price sale in the Digard Auction in Paris October 2019 for a small canvas, Rhys is already enjoying a wave across the channel and is invited to feature in a group show in Paris in May.

With early talk of collabs with fashion brands and more, it’s an exciting time for Rhys Brown. We hope you can join us for his 1st London Solo show of the year and decade on Thurs  Canapés and drinks will be served. Wine, Beer, socialising and visuals.

The Waluso Gallery opened in April 2019 to give artists a transparent platform to sell their work from. Known for their youthful exhubrerance and keen eye, since opening they’ve hosted six shows and In October Euan Roberts’ solo show “Joy Ride” sold out in 48 hours - an amazing feat. The gallery has championed sculpture artist Schoony whose fans include model & actress Cara Delevigne, Rita Ora, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie and interior designer Celia Sawyer, and shows artwork from Banksy, Stik, Ru Knox, Tim Gatenby, Rugman and Invader.
