you see, I was doing the driving, and we stopped to pick him up, from a posh hotel, and in he got. 

first thing he did was turn off the CD compilation I had spent every evening for weeks preparing. 
‘can’t concentrate with that fucking music playing’, he said.

he’ll be back this weekend, playing; I wanted to buy a ticket and stand up, shout the same thing.

but he wouldn’t recognise me, most likely. I was just the driver, the one who organised his hotels.

and I was also the one who left the big city all those years ago, went home, only to come back a woman. as near as I'll ever get, anyway.

he’s a bastard for not listening to my CD. he’s nothing to me.
