About

Portsmouth is often mistaken for being a monocultural, jingoistic and reactionary city. Presenting a very different narrative, CCI lecturer Tom Sykes will discuss Portsmouth's role as a global city with close cultural and literary connections to Asia.

Followed by local British-Asian writers reading from their work about their experience of migration, integration and cultural encounter. With Sarah Cheverton (Portsmouth born and bred, but travelled extensively in Asia)

Sudip Sen (Indian-Australian who now lives in Portsmouth)

Avie Olarte (Filipino writer based in Manila but reflecting on Portsmouth via Skype)

Mustafi Rahman (Bangladeshi writer based in Portsmouth)
