Be part of the craft revival as our Young Producers bring workshops, talks, and tours celebrating the links between art and craft into the Gallery

About

In 2019, the UK’s Heritage Craft Association’s red list of ‘endangered crafts’ includes everything from globe making to fan making. Many of the same crafts captured in paintings like those here at the Gallery are at risk of dying out.

The Young Producers want to do something about that. We’re bringing crafts out of the paintings and into the galleries, to celebrate the relationship between art and craft for this special Friday Late at the National Gallery.

Try your hand at paper marbling and embroidery; see how gilding and painting conservation work; hear live music performed in the Gallery; consider the future of traditional craft in modern society with a panel discussion of artists using traditional techniques; and enjoy talks, tours, workshops and more. There'll also be a pop-up bar.
