Reveal by Brian Ansell an Exhibition of Stone Carving

Bury St Edmunds sculptor Brian Ansell will be exhibiting his stone carvings and sculpture at Elsey's Gallery. He will be in residence demonstrating skills and techniques used in the finished pieces from Thursday until Saturdays throughout March. The gallery will also be open to visitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Brain Ansell's work has a timeless quality because he uses the same traditional direct carving techniques as the ancient and traditional stone masons. continuing to carve with the same tools that he began his trade with forty-five years ago, he is able to work without modern conveniences such as electricity. Ansell conveys in his work a sense of antiquity which links us directly with our past heritage. His extensive experience, combined with a passionate interest and knowledge of local history will provide visitors with a fascinating glimpse of past and present together in the same space. The astonishing quality of the sculptor's workmanship has generated high demand with museums and private collectors. Notably he was one of the two highly acclaimed craftsmen to remake the Sutton Hoo Stone Sceptre. Brian Ansell's illustrious career has encompassed his important roles with the prestigious teams of stone masons who worked on the restoration of Lincoln Cathedral and York Minster's Great West Door.
