About
‘Return to the Body’ marks the end of Chalton Gallery. This final show includes new works by Milda Lambertiak, Maria de Lima, Joel Wyllie, Lucy Joyce, Emily Motto, Johnston Sheard, Aleksandra Durman, Ingrid Berthon-Moine, Joseph Ridgeon, Tiz Creel, Monica Tolia, Sara Rodriques and a drawing in collaboration between Rosie Gibbens, Saelia Aparicio and Elliot Dodd. There is nothing more precious and fragile than the body. The body is always a hyperactive organism, constantly transforming and consuming its environment. The body is what it eats and drinks.
The body is the space it occupies.
The body is what it wears.
The body is what it defecates.
The body is everything (at least until now!).
Long before Covid-19, we have been facing two enormous crises. First environmental deterioration, second loss of spirituality. So ‘Return to the Body’ is not a call to a return to the organic machine and its sensorial faculties but a return to its driving force, that is a return of the human soul and spirit to the body.
