About
Private View - 7th Oct 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Gilbert began by seeking inspiration from iconic architecture and cityscapes.
Her first works were of constructivist nature, she was greatly inspired by Zaha Hadid. Angles, perspective and reflection dominated her compositions.
After a trip to Miami Art Basel her work was greatly influenced by Bauhaus architecture, seascapes and of course neon.
'The reggaeton music I heard blaring throughout Miami became the music I listened to whilst painting and my work stopped being rigid and controlled and become free and expressive.'
Music then became an integral part of her painting process.
She started looking at people as an organism, as a movement, how we are part of something bigger and what connects us.
'I got curious about derelict spaces and how, over time they changed and evolved into new beginnings, new opportunities, new starts. I thought about all the people in these spaces, their hopes and vision. The natural evolution of business and consumerism.'
