Presenting a Work in Progress show on 'Place' with Goya's resident artists.

About

Goya's current project takes focus on the word 'place' and what it means.

How would you define a place? What makes it a place? is it familiar or unfamiliar? Do you have a sense of belonging or displacement? What emotional response does it invoke?

Our six resident artists will be showcasing their works in progress for a special evening show at our studio in Peckham Levels. Artists included are as follows:

Kelly Tran was born and raised in South London. Inspired by her heritage and her relationship with mental health and well being, her work incorporates both traditional and digital mediums. Kelly’s work focuses on surrealism, invoking dreamlike imagery reflective of changing emotions.

Her work also pays a tribute to her mental health and wellbeing. Her test prints are her journal entries, from different brush strokes and colour combinations, each deliberate action is intrinsically tied to Kelly’s identity and sense of self-expression.

Tasia Graham is a London based illustrator. Her work explores bold, atmospheric, narrative illustration, using her colourful pallet and fluid, stylised drawing techniques.

Working in both digital format and traditional painting, Tasia explores womanhood, culture, and identity, depicting moods and scenes formed into illustrative storytelling.

Elena González, better known as ELNO, is a Spanish street artist based in London, illustrator and painter and also founder of Wom Collective, a female street artists collective based in London with the goal to empower others and re-teach Her-story.

Her style has developed from her experience in the theatre and illustration industries. Originally starting as a street artist, her work is now in demand and is regularly being commissioned worldwide by art galleries and brands such as G Star Raw, Formula E, Adidas, Acer, Glastonbury Festival and more.

Pei-Chi Lee is a multidisciplinary artist, design researcher and illustrator. Her research explores the relationship between play and wellbeing, particularly in the public sphere. Using a whimsical aesthetic throughout her practice, Pei-Chi employs a wide range of materials and kinetic movement to tell stories that emphasise tactility and interaction with the viewers.

In 2019, Pei-Chi completed her MA in Textiles Mixed Media from the Royal College of Art in London, having previously studied BA Fashion Textiles at the London College of Fashion graduating in 2014. Her work has since been exhibited internationally in India, Taiwan and the UK, and has worked on several design projects, workshops and talks on the concept of playfulness and well-being’s strong relationship, in different contexts.

Barbara is an Interdisciplinary Artist and Researcher experimenting with the complexities of bicultural identities. Exploring the tension between racialised individual and collective identity constructs.

Her practice-based research aims to re-imagine solutions across the African Diaspora. Alchemise oppression, traumatic histories, present conditions of racialisation and anti-blackness; into a thriving, humanised conditions. Using practical and theoretical skills developed during her BA Fashion Textiles Embroidery degree, Sociology background; And currently MRes Fine Art & Humanities at Royal College of Art.

The final works will culminate in an exhibition on the 12-14th January 2022.
