Sound artist Haeyoung Kim and performer Michael Wiener collaborate on Kim’s second residency performance of the season.

About

Building upon her first residency performance in March, media artist Haeyoung Kim presents Breaths, an interactive multimedia performance that explores the ways in which technology can be used to foster creative environments. By incorporating personal smart devices with the Moori system, Breaths breaks down the barriers between performance and audience to construct a spontaneous, communal work of art. With Breaths, Kim seeks to redefine “performance” and transcend the isolation often associated with our current modes of communication.

About Moori:

Moori is an interactive collaboration environment where users participate in a real‑time narrative. Using mobile technologies and network systems, members express their ideas through instant messaging and sketches using their personal devices. Through the Moori system, audience participation is visualized and reproduced aurally. As a result, Moori allows users to become anonymous authors of an interactive storytelling experience and a unique, dynamic and algorithmic audio/visual performance.

About Haeyoung Kim:

With a background in classical piano, digital artist and interaction designer Haeyoung Kim explores the texture of sounds in electronic music. Her work focuses on immersive experience in sound, human interaction, and perception. Under the name Bubblyfish, Kim explores the territory of sounds, live performance and interactive media by integrating audience participation into her performances.  Her work has been presented in various museums and festivals including Museum of the Moving Image, MoMA PS1, MUTEK, Lincoln Center’s Walter Reed Theater, and Kunsthalle Wien.

About Michael Wiener:

Michael Wiener is a film director, writer, and actor. As an actor, Wiener’s films have won awards and international acclaim at Sundance Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, Comic-Con, and more. Wiener has performed at MoMA PS1, Brooklyn Museum, Whitney Museum Museum, and The Kitchen and counts playwright Sibyl Kempson and performance artist Liz Magic Laser among his collaborators.
