Offering partial renders of socio-political realities that misalign with the status quo, Rendering Refusal explores what can emerge when hope and refusal work together. Taking place across two venues in Berlin – Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien and Betonhalle, silent green – our exhibition Rendering Refusal will be open to in person visits from 15 March. Under consideration of the latest government regulations around the pandemic, the exhibition will be open until 20 March in Betonhalle, silent green and until 28 March in Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien.
The exhibition features work by Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Bassam Al-Sabah, Bassem Saad, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, Eli Cortiñas, Jennifer Mehigan, Larry Achiampong, Laura Yuile, Madison Bycroft, Natasha Tontey, Patricia Dominguez, Sofia Caesar, Sung Tieu, and Yang Ah Ham. Exploring tactics for refusal and their capacity for hope, the exhibition brings together artistic positions that alter our understanding of long-standing political conflicts, shape futures out of contradictions and differences, develop queer cosmologies, and inscribe new ideologies into the mundane.
